Practical Blesta plugins built around real hosting work, plus free guides for running Blesta well. We build our own plugins for Blesta, port proven WHMCS addons to it, and build custom Blesta plugins and modules to spec.

What Are Blesta Plugins?
Blesta plugins add features to your billing system: new staff pages, new sections in the client area, dashboard widgets, scheduled tasks and email alerts. Blesta itself ships with plugins like Support Manager and the order system, and third-party plugins fill the gaps around how your business actually runs.
Blesta has two other kinds of extensions worth knowing. Modules set up services automatically, such as cPanel accounts, VPSs and domains. Gateways take payments. If it adds a feature, it’s a plugin; if it creates something a client pays for, it’s a module.
A well-built Blesta plugin behaves like part of Blesta: it signs clients in with the login they already have, sends email through Blesta’s own templates, runs scheduled work through Blesta’s cron, and respects staff permissions. That’s the standard we build to.
Why Hosting Businesses Add Blesta Plugins
Blesta covers the core of a hosting business well out of the box: invoices, payments, automatic account setup and support tickets. What it can’t do is anticipate every way a particular host works with its clients. That gap is where Blesta plugins earn their place.
Most of the plugins hosts ask us about fall into one of three goals:
- Fewer support tickets. Self-service tools and a client community let customers answer their own questions, which matters more with every client you add.
- More reasons to log in. A client who only visits the client area to pay an invoice once a year is easy to lose. One who checks their uptime and SSL every week sees your brand every week.
- Less manual work. Anything your staff does by hand every week, from checking sites to chasing a sync, is a candidate for a plugin or a scheduled task.
What Makes a Good Blesta Plugin
Every plugin you install runs inside your billing system, with access to client details and the tools that control your servers. Before you install any Blesta plugin, ours included, it’s worth checking a few things:
- It uses Blesta’s own login. Clients shouldn’t need a second account or password.
- It protects every form. Blesta has built-in CSRF protection; a plugin should use it on every form it adds.
- It respects staff permissions. Your support team shouldn’t be able to change settings they don’t need.
- It upgrades without losing data. A new version should keep your settings and history, and uninstalling shouldn’t silently delete everything.
- It’s maintained for the current version. Blesta 6 rebuilt the staff area on Bootstrap 5 and requires PHP 8.2 or newer, so older plugins may not work properly.
Our Blesta security guide covers the rest of the checklist for keeping your install safe.
How We Build Blesta Plugins
Our Blesta plugins follow Blesta’s own developer documentation and coding style guide, so they look and behave like the rest of Blesta. Alert emails are real Blesta email templates you can reword under Settings, scheduled work runs through Blesta’s own cron as an automation task, and every setting, monitor and record is kept separate per company for multi-company installs.
Before release, each plugin is installed and tested on a real Blesta 6 installation, not just a local copy. That’s where you find the things a simulation misses, like a page that renders perfectly in testing but comes up blank in a live client theme. We fix those before you ever see them. If you want to know more about what goes into a plugin, our Blesta plugin development guide walks through it.

Which Blesta Plugin Is Right for You?
If you want clients logging in more often and opening fewer “is it you or me?” tickets, start with Caddie. Clients monitor their own uptime, check SSL expiry and fix their SPF records, and the Leads report shows you who might be ready for a bigger plan.
If the same support questions come in every week, the free Blesta forum plugin turns those answers into a searchable community your clients can use on their own.
If you want more signups, Trial Products lets visitors try any package free. Each trial converts to paid or cancels on its own, and each client only gets one.
Many hosts run all three. They’re built to sit side by side in the same client area.
Common Blesta Plugin Use Cases
Beyond our own Blesta plugins, these are the requests that come up most when hosts ask us for something custom:
- Notifications to your team. A message in Slack or Discord when a large order comes in, a service is suspended or a client cancels, built on Blesta events.
- Syncing with other systems. Sending new clients to a CRM or mailing list, or invoices to accounting software.
- Reports Blesta doesn’t have. A dashboard widget with the exact numbers you check every Monday.
- Provisioning for something new. A control panel, license server or internal system without a Blesta module. That’s a module rather than a plugin; see Blesta module development.
- A client area that matches your website. A custom template rather than a plugin, covered in our client area customization guide.
Blesta Plugins vs Editing Blesta’s Code
Because most of Blesta’s code is readable, it’s tempting to change a core file directly to get the behavior you want. It works, until the next update overwrites your change without warning. Blesta plugins avoid that: they live in their own folder, hook into Blesta through events, actions and templates, and survive updates untouched. When we’re asked for a quick core edit, we almost always build a small plugin instead, so it keeps working through the next Blesta update.
Coming From WHMCS?
Our plugins started life as WHMCS addons, and we’ve rebuilt them as native Blesta plugins rather than wrapping the WHMCS code. If you’re moving over, our guide to migrating from WHMCS to Blesta walks through the whole switch, and the WHMCS vs Blesta comparison helps if you’re still deciding.

Hosting That Runs Blesta Well
Blesta needs PHP 8.3, ionCube Loader and a cron job that runs every minute. Our reseller hosting plans include all three on LiteSpeed servers in Indiana and Virginia, so you can run Blesta right alongside your clients’ sites.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do your Blesta plugins work with Blesta 6?
Yes. All of them are built for Blesta 6 and tested on Blesta 6.0.3, with staff pages built on Blesta 6’s Bootstrap 5 admin theme in light and dark mode.
Do clients need a separate login?
No. Our plugins run inside the Blesta client area and use the login clients already have.
How do I install them?
Upload the plugin’s folder to Blesta’s plugins/ directory and click Install under Settings → Company → Plugins. Our plugin install guide has every step.
Are WHMCS and Blesta licenses interchangeable?
No. Each version is a separate plugin built natively for its platform, with its own license.
Do Blesta plugins slow Blesta down?
A well-built plugin only does work when its pages are opened or its scheduled task runs. Caddie’s background checks run in Blesta’s cron, not while clients browse, and the forum’s search uses MySQL’s built-in full-text indexes.
What happens to my data if I uninstall a plugin?
It depends on the plugin. Caddie keeps your monitors, links and history unless you tick a “delete data on uninstall” setting. Disabling any plugin keeps its data; uninstalling may not. Our plugin install guide explains the difference.
Can you build a custom Blesta plugin or module?
Yes. Tell us what you need and we’ll scope it with you before any work starts.
