Out of the box, the Blesta client area is clean but looks like every other Blesta install. Your customers should feel like they’re still on your site when they log in to pay an invoice. The good news is that Blesta client area customization is fairly safe, as long as you change things in the right places. Here are five ways to do it, from a five-minute color change to a fully custom template, plus the mistakes that make updates painful.

Why Blesta Client Area Customization Matters
Your client area is where people pay you. If it suddenly looks different from your website, some visitors pause and wonder whether they’ve been sent somewhere unsafe, and a few leave without paying. A matching design builds trust, keeps your brand in front of clients every month, and makes your business look bigger and more polished than a default install ever will. Good Blesta client area customization doesn’t need to be fancy; it needs to feel like one site.
Plan Before You Start
Before touching any files, write down what you want clients to feel and do. Collect your brand colors as hex codes, your logo in a few sizes, and the fonts your website uses. Screenshot your homepage header and footer. Then decide which level below you actually need. Most hosts find that levels one to three cover everything, and only move to a custom template when their website has a distinctive header worth copying. A clear plan keeps Blesta client area customization quick and stops it turning into a never-ending design project.
1. Colors and Logo (No Code)
Start under Settings > Company > Look and Feel. The Themes section lets you create a client theme with your own colors and header logo. Many hosts stop here, and for a small business that’s often enough. Match the colors to your main website’s buttons and header so the jump from your site to Blesta feels natural. For many hosts, this is all the Blesta client area customization they ever need. Use a logo file with a transparent background, sized for the header, so it looks sharp on high-resolution screens.
2. Navigation Links
Under Look and Feel > Navigation, you can choose which links appear in the client area menu and in what order, including links added by plugins. Put what clients do most first: services, invoices, support. Add links that lead back to your main website, such as your knowledge base or status page, so clients aren’t stuck. Tidy navigation is an easy Blesta client area customization win, because a shorter menu makes every important page easier to find.
3. A Custom Stylesheet
For anything the color settings can’t do, like fonts, spacing or button shapes, Blesta’s template guide recommends your own CSS file, such as overrides.css, loaded after the other styles in the template’s structure.pdt. As the guide puts it, using your own CSS file means easier upgrades, because you only need to keep one line pointing at your stylesheet rather than redoing every change.
A small stylesheet goes a long way. This example sets a brand font and button color:
/* overrides.css */
body {
font-family: "Poppins", Arial, sans-serif;
}
.btn-primary {
background-color: #ec2e7b;
border-color: #ec2e7b;
}
.btn-primary:hover {
background-color: #c91f63;
border-color: #c91f63;
}
Keep the stylesheet focused on looks. If you find yourself hiding large parts of the page with CSS, that’s a sign you need your own template instead.
4. Your Own Client Template
When you need to change the page layout itself, such as the header, footer or where things sit, make your own template instead of editing Blesta’s:

- Copy
/app/views/client/bootstrap/to a new folder, such as/app/views/client/mytheme/. - Edit
config.jsonin the new folder and change the name and authors. - Go to Settings > Company > Look and Feel > Template and choose your theme as the Client Template.
- Edit the files in your copy. The header and footer live in
structure.pdt.
Because Blesta updates replace the original bootstrap template, not yours, your changes survive. The trade-off: when Blesta improves the original, you’ll need to copy those improvements across yourself. Keep a note of every file you change so updates stay manageable. This is the most powerful level of Blesta client area customization, so it’s worth doing carefully.
5. Content That Changes per Company
If you run more than one brand in a single Blesta install, templates can check which company is showing and change content to match. Blesta’s guide shows checking $system_company->id in structure.pdt, for example to load a different live chat widget for each brand.
Matching Your WordPress Site
The most common Blesta client area customization request we get is “make it look like our website”. The simplest way is to copy your site’s header and footer HTML into your template’s structure.pdt, then load your site’s fonts and a few key styles in overrides.css. Use full URLs for links back to your main site, and keep the header simple; menus with big dropdowns rarely work well inside a billing area. Check the result next to your homepage in two browser windows so differences stand out.
Don’t Forget Emails and Order Forms
Clients see your brand in more places than the client area. Edit Blesta’s email templates under Settings > Company > Emails so invoices and welcome emails use your name, signature and tone. Order forms have their own templates and settings under Packages > Order Forms, so check them too after changing your client theme. Full Blesta client area customization means every page and email a client sees feels like one brand.
Add Features, Not Just Looks
A branded client area is nice; one clients actually use is better. Plugins can add whole new sections that pick up your theme automatically. Our Caddie for Blesta plugin adds 24 tools, from uptime monitoring to SSL and email checks, with light, dark or auto themes and your own accent colors. Our free Blesta forum plugin adds a client community. Both keep all their styling scoped, so they never restyle the rest of your template. If you want to build your own, our Blesta plugin development guide shows how.
What Not to Do

- Don’t edit the original
bootstraptemplate. The next update will overwrite your work. - Don’t edit Blesta’s core PHP files to change how things look. Use templates and plugins instead.
- Don’t forget mobile. Many clients pay invoices from their phones. Check every change on a small screen.
- Don’t hide important links. If clients can’t find invoices or support, they’ll email you instead.
- Don’t ignore contrast. Light text on light buttons looks stylish in a mock-up and is hard to read in real life.
Accessibility and Readability
A client area is used, not just admired, so readability comes first. Keep body text at a comfortable size, make sure buttons and links have enough contrast against their background (the WCAG contrast guidelines give clear targets), and don’t rely on color alone to show status; Blesta’s labels like “Paid” and “Unpaid” should stay readable. If your brand uses a dark look, test every page, including forms and tables, because a dark theme that works on the dashboard can leave input fields hard to see. Accessible Blesta client area customization helps every client, not only those with visual impairments.
Keep a Change Log
Keep a simple text file in your template folder that lists each file you changed, what you changed and why. When Blesta releases an update, that list tells you exactly which files to compare with the new default template. Better still, keep your template folder in Git. Six months from now, you’ll be glad your Blesta client area customization is documented instead of living only in your memory.
Testing Your Blesta Client Area Customization
Log in as a test client and click through every page: dashboard, services, a service’s management tabs, invoices, paying an invoice, support tickets and the account settings. Then do the same on a phone. Check plugin pages too, since they load inside your template. After every Blesta update, repeat a quick version of this test, and compare your template with the new default to spot anything you should copy across. A little testing keeps your Blesta client area customization looking right for years.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does Blesta client area customization cost?
Colors, logo and navigation are free and take minutes. A custom stylesheet is a few hours of work. A fully custom template that matches your website is a bigger project, depending on how complex your site’s design is.
Can I make Blesta look like my WordPress site?
Yes. A custom template can copy your site’s header, footer and fonts so the two feel like one site. That’s the most common custom request we get.
Can I remove the Blesta branding?
Only with an unbranded license. The Blesta documentation explains how once you have one.
Will my changes survive Blesta updates?
Yes, if you work in your own template copy and your own stylesheet. Changes made to the original template or core files will be lost.
Can you build a custom template for us?
Yes. Send us your website and we’ll handle the Blesta client area customization to match it. See more Blesta plugins and guides.
